- Buy your share of a steer ahead of time: Must place order minimum of six months in advance due to long butcher wait periods (typically 6-10 months). Minimum of half animal order price due at time of order (to producer, non-refundable). Grass fed animals can take two years to grow out. Example: Average live weight of 1400# finished steer X current market price of estimated $1.25 per pound = $1750 for whole steer. 1/4 =$437.50 1/2 = $875 Divide by 2 for down payment to buy your share of an animal, with the balance paid in full before it goes to the butcher. FYI: Actual packaged meat will be a fraction of the live weight. 1/4, 1/2 or whole Angus steer sold at current live market value plus local butcher costs (paid direct to butcher at time of pickup or pre-paid before pickup and delivery). Will deliver within 90 mile radius only after the local butcher has been prepaid by the buyer. Or can pick it up yourself. Typically within 10-14 days of butcher date.
